Ego vs genuine happiness
Hi self-improver,
I know two people (let's give them fake names to maintain their anonymity: Peter & Frank) that enjoy a certain sport. Both have dreams of opening their own location to be able to coach people in this sport. Both are super passionate about this sport and have invested large portions of their life into this sport. Both have an ego, Peter invests in that ego. Buys a beautiful new Mercedes and boasts about it. Peter has not gotten any further with his dreams, in fact he is dragged down by all the financial dependencies that come with this new car. Frank doesn't listen to his ego, but he looks inside at this beautiful dream he has and decides to act on it. He travels by bike and invests whatever he has and takes a loan to buy equipment. Then he went looking for a location, but got rejected twice. Yet still he keeps going. The journey, even tho it is hard, is already giving him happiness. Meanwhile Peter is still not getting closer to his dreams.
I think you get the message. It's insane that even tho Frank hasn't gotten his location he's already happier than Peter who thought a material item would give him that satisfaction. You hear these stories everywhere, but it's the first time I've been able to observe this in real life. It is a great reminder for me. It helps me prioritize the things that will truly make me happy. I try to support Frank and tell him to keep going, I know he will find his location. He inspires me and I'm grateful for having had this experience as a learning moment.
Finishing up
It's crazy how my mind was so chaotic I didn't have space to do this newsletter for 3 months. I've literally written all this in less than 1 hour. It even gave me energy, I enjoyed writing this. I got it back on track tho, ready for this year. I hope you have an amazing year also. Experiencing tranquility, happiness and growth.
See you next month,
Tristan
